Questions & Answers

  • What makes a garden pod "eco"?

In our range, an eco pod combines responsible timber sourcing, high-performance insulation to minimise energy consumption, natural material finishes, and the option for off-grid adaptations such as solar power and rainwater collection. All our pods use slow-grown conifer timber as standard. The eco designation specifically refers to models specified with our best-available insulation and sustainable finish options. Call us at +353 1 699 4541 to discuss the most environmentally conscious specification for your project.

  • Does a timber garden pod have a better environmental footprint than a metal garden room?

Yes – in general terms. The embodied energy (energy consumed in manufacturing the building materials) of slow-grown timber is significantly lower than that of steel, aluminium, or composite panel construction. Timber also stores carbon rather than emitting it during manufacture. The specific environmental comparison depends on the full lifecycle of the building, including transport, maintenance, and eventual disposal, but on any reasonable measure, a timber garden pod has a lower environmental impact than an equivalent metal or composite structure.

  • Can I add solar panels to an eco garden pod?

Yes – flat roof and asymmetric roof models are particularly well suited to solar panel installation, and our team can advise on structural provisions during the design and specification stage. Mounting solar panels during the build is significantly easier than retrofitting them afterwards. We recommend consulting a qualified solar installer to assess the electrical design and connection requirements. Call us at +353 1 699 4541 to discuss incorporating solar provisions into your pod specification.

  • What wood treatment options are most eco-friendly?

Water-based wood preservatives and natural oil-based stains are the most environmentally friendly options for treating the exterior timber of a garden pod. These products provide good weather protection with minimal environmental impact compared to solvent-based alternatives. We recommend treating all exterior timber surfaces shortly after assembly and re-treating every two to three years. Full maintenance guidance is available on our Product Maintenance page.
