Questions & Answers

  • What is the difference between glamping and camping pods?

A glamping pod is designed for a luxurious outdoor experience with a proper indoor space, comfortable furnishings, and often bathroom facilities – the emphasis is on comfort combined with a connection to nature. A camping pod provides a more basic weatherproof shelter that removes the discomfort of tent camping while retaining the simplicity of the camping experience. In our range, the larger 44 mm BRETA models with multiple rooms are glamping pods; the smaller 28 mm models are closer to camping pods. The distinction is largely one of size and fitted amenities.

  • Do BRETA glamping pods need planning permission in Ireland?

For personal use in a private garden, a small BRETA pod within standard exempted development thresholds may not require planning permission. For commercial rental or for larger structures, planning permission is likely to be required. The specific requirements depend on your local authority, the size of the structure, and its intended use. We strongly recommend checking with your local authority before proceeding with a commercial glamping use. Call us at +353 1 699 4541 for general guidance.

  • Can I live in a glamping pod year-round in Ireland?

BRETA glamping pods are not designed or specified for permanent year-round residential use – they are built for short-stay outdoor living experiences. For permanent or extended residential use, we recommend our garden lodge or granny flat range, which are properly insulated and built to residential construction standards. For temporary stays and seasonal glamping, the BRETA range is an excellent and very enjoyable choice. Call us at +353 1 699 4541 to discuss the right solution for your specific needs.

  • Do larger BRETA glamping pods have a bathroom?

Yes – BRETA models from 4×6 m upwards include a dedicated bathroom area with space for a toilet and shower, which can be fitted by a plumber once the pod is in place. The 4×8 m and 4×10 m models include separate bedroom and bathroom areas alongside a combined living room and kitchen space, providing a genuinely complete short-stay accommodation experience.
