Questions & Answers

  • Do I need planning permission for a wooden carport in Ireland?

In most cases, a wooden carport installed to the side or rear of a dwelling does not require planning permission in Ireland, provided it falls within the exempted development thresholds set out under the Planning and Development Regulations. Key factors include the overall height, the total area of structures already on the property, and proximity to boundaries. We always recommend checking with your local authority before proceeding. Our team is happy to provide general guidance – call us at +353 1 699 4541.

  • What foundation does a wooden carport need?

We recommend a concrete slab or well-compacted hardcore base as the foundation for any wooden carport. The base should be level, solid, and well-drained to prevent ground moisture from affecting the timber posts and floor structure over time. For detailed guidance on preparing the right foundation for your chosen model, visit our Foundation page or speak to our team directly.

  • How long does a wooden carport last?

A well-maintained timber carport built from quality slow-grown conifer will last for many decades. The key factors in longevity are the quality of the initial timber treatment, regular re-treatment of the exterior every two to three years, and ensuring good drainage around the base so the timber posts never sit in standing water. All our carports come with a 10-year structural warranty. Visit our Product Maintenance page for full care guidance.

  • Can I add side panels to my wooden carport?

Yes – many of our carport models, particularly the CLASSIC and LUNA ranges, are available with optional side wall panels that can be added to provide extra protection from wind and rain. You can typically choose the number and position of panels to suit your site conditions and preferences. Check the individual product pages for the side panel options available on each model, or call us at +353 1 699 4541 for personalised advice.

  • Are wooden carports delivered assembled or as a kit?

Our CLASSIC, LUNA, and MODERN carports are delivered as flat-pack prefabricated kits with all components numbered and comprehensive assembly instructions included. Most customers with basic DIY experience can complete the assembly in a day or two. If you prefer, our professional installation service is available throughout Ireland – just let us know when placing your order and we will arrange everything on your behalf.

  • What is the difference between a single and double wooden carport?

A single carport is designed to shelter one vehicle and typically covers a footprint of around 3×6 m to 5×6 m. A double carport provides covered parking for two vehicles side by side, typically from 6×6 m upwards. We also offer triple carports in the CLASSIC TRIO configuration for properties with three vehicles. If you are unsure which size suits your needs, our team can help – call us at +353 1 699 4541.
