The First Warning Sign: You Never Get to See the Raw Timber

Many manufacturers only showcase painted, stained, or heavily treated timber.

Why does that matter?

Coatings can hide structural defects. Fast-grown timber often contains knots, cracks, and resin pockets that only surface years later as warping, twisting, or decay. This is where the manufacturer's experience with harsh climates becomes critical.

Whenever possible, ask to see unfinished timber or detailed close-up photographs of the actual material used in production. The raw timber often tells you more than any marketing brochure ever could.

1. Can I see unfinished wood samples?
Real quality is easiest to verify when there is nothing to hide. If a manufacturer cannot provide unfinished timber samples or detailed material photographs, that is valuable information in itself.

2. How long has the company been supplying cabins to demanding climates?
A manufacturer with experience in regions exposed to harsh winters, strong winds, and changing seasons has already seen how its cabins perform under real-world conditions. That track record can be an important indicator of quality.

3. What does the cabin warranty actually cover?
Not all warranties offer the same level of protection. Pay attention to what is covered, what is excluded, and how claims are handled. A manufacturer that stands behind the quality of its timber and construction should be willing to provide clear and meaningful warranty terms.
