Wanna try? Look into building your own garage! Let’s go!
1st step: materials and layout
With Pineca.ie’s neatly packaged wooden garage DIY sets, this part is made as easy as possible. All the parts will be delivered at the agreed-upon location. Then, it’s important to get everything organised and in place, ready for the assembly. We recommend sorting each component/package into piles, which should be a pretty easy process. We labelled all parts corresponding to the assembly instructions, which are also included in your DIY garage kit. Plus, you’ll receive the necessary hardware as well, making sure you can start right away on your prefab wooden garage project!
2nd step: the foundation
The basics to “how to build a wooden garage” essentially start with a reliable foundation. Before even touching the wooden garage kit, the groundwork is essential to guarantee the structural integrity of the building. No matter which model you choose, a solid foundation ensures that the garage can serve its purpose well for many years to come.
Let’s start! First of all, you’ll need to make sure that your surface is square and flat. The pressure-treated ground beams will be put in that base before you can construct the other parts on top. It is important to have the base rail secured by drilling into the concrete foundation. This is essential to prevent strong winds from moving the garage.

3rd step: assemble the wall panels
You’ll be pleased to know that once you have the first row of panels fastened, you’ll be able to see the structure of the garage a lot more clearly – the doorways, the openings, and so on will be clearly visible. Now, to get every part precisely aligned, it can be invaluable to use a string line. Finally, while building a wooden garage, you’ll be tapping the panels into place. Our suggestion here is to mind the ends of each panel – it’s a lot better to avoid causing breakage by tapping the larger parts in. Seeing everything come into place as you’re building the walls will be a lot smoother and more satisfying!
4th step: install the roof joists
As far as building a garage from our assortment goes, the roof joists have to align edge to edge. In order to get this done right, you’ll have to mark and shorten them. We recommend cutting one end off and then using that joist as a template for the rest of them. This way, the result will be consistent, and all the edges will be perfectly aligned. Next up, mind how you attach the roof beams. You’ll have to calculate the height of the band you add, so that the water drains from the front of the garage to the back. The right slope will ensure this part is covered and you can move on to the next step – the insulation (if you have chosen it).
5th step: add insulation for comfort and durability
This next section of your new “How to build a wooden garage” guide will cover installing the insulation and how significant it is to the structure. Since it has to be placed between the walls, you’ll have to secure the slow-grown conifer timber planks around the perimeter of the bottom. The layer of insulation should be put on this timber. It will be supported by newly placed vertical planks on the side, which will help create a cavity for the insulation material. Once it’s there, flexible sealant will keep it in place. Then follow the silver tape, the batten, the membrane, and the covering.
You’ll also find instructions for a cold roof in our kit. Nevertheless, you can also choose to construct a warm roof, in which the insulation is placed on the membrane with the OSB plate on top of it. Compared to the cold roof, the insulation is placed on the inside between the joists. Building a wooden garage featuring insulation is a smart move because that way it can always be comfortably used for other purposes (e.g., a studio, a workspace) in the future. Don’t miss out on giving yourself these options, which the multifunctionality of the structure creates.
6th step: extra features for your DIY wooden garage
We offer plenty of optional extras for the model of your choice at Pineca.ie. For example, you could upgrade the wooden doors included in the kit to an electric roller door for enhanced security. Also, PVC windows & doors are good options! They’re usually drilled into the wooden parts during assembly. Another popular optional extra is steel guttering, which is perfect for directing rainwater into a water butt. We suspect these add-ons can really take your new DIY wooden garage to new heights!
7th step: refinement
From our point of view, exterior panels are the last piece of the puzzle – they are not difficult to drill in, complete the design, and add a modern touch, plus stability to the garage. You’ll need to trim the parapets before sealing, which also adds to the minimal look. This step is only needed for modern garages that feature cladding – if you’ve chosen a simpler structure, the whole process of building a wooden garage by yourself will actually be even quicker!
